"Now is the time to make the move to nontoxic lawn care for yourself,
your children, your pets, and for your environment. "
For those of you who want to begin the journey to healthy living, the
garden is an easy place to start. We can make it even easier for
you. Most of us working here garden organically, at least most of
the time, and we're always learning more. We try to have a good,
but not overwhelming selection of organic products, and we encourage our
employees to use them and give an honest opinion. There is no
point in selling something that doesn't work! We teach some
classes, and would like to take some ourselves--if you have something to
offer, let us know!
Our Landscaping department proudly DOES NOT have a pesticide
applicator's license, and uses ecologically sound practices whenever
possible. (They love to plant in compost!)
Now, if only 'they' made a hybrid dump truck!
The following is some good news from a horticultural source I
review.
"Joint venture to develop, market bio-packaging
Ball
Horticultural Co. and
Alliance 47
announce a joint venture to develop and commercialize new
bio-packaging products for the horticulture industry. Under the
long-term agreement, Ball has exclusive worldwide rights to
technology that will apply to a wide range of packaging products
including pots, tags, sleeves and point-of-purchase materials.
Ball has the ability to license the technology to
manufacturers around the world. Three substrates are now
available for use in a variety of packaging applications. Two
reduce the use of petroleum-based plastic by at least 50% and
offer the benefits of recycling or quick degradation. The other
material is biodegradable and completely eliminates plastic.
These substrates use natural materials including mineral
compounds and wheat flour."
Recycling update!
We now are taking back 6", 8" and 1 gallon plastic pots in good
condition with no grower labels on them. Degage Gardens can wash
them and reuse them! Great work Anne!
Brad & I just got back from the NJNLA meeting, (January '08) and this
group is trying to come up with better solutions for pot recycling.
I'll keep you informed!
